Introduction


This one-day training is designed to provide participants with a practical understanding of greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory accounting, with emphasis on the step-by-step preparation of an organizational GHG inventory. The training will introduce the key accounting concepts, principles, and methodological requirements used for quantifying and reporting GHG emissions, with primary reference to the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and alignment, where relevant, with ISO 14064-1 principles.

The program will focus on the practical aspects of inventory preparation, including defining organizational and operational boundaries, identifying emission sources, classifying Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, selecting and validating activity data, applying emission factors, performing calculations, and preparing inventory summaries. The training will also cover common challenges such as data gaps, estimation methods, recalculation triggers, uncertainty, exclusions, documentation, and internal quality controls.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the training, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the basic principles and framework of GHG inventory accounting;
  • Define organizational and operational boundaries for inventory preparation;
  • Identify and classify emission sources under Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3;
  • Calculate GHG emissions using activity data and emission factors;
  • Understand the treatment of assumptions, exclusions, data gaps, and estimations;
  • Prepare simple GHG inventory working papers and summary outputs; and
  • Understand good practices for data quality, documentation, and reporting readiness.

RESOURCE PERSON 

MR. Vijay Mathew

A sustainability and climate change expert with over 16 years of experience. He has conducted numerous management system audits, sustainability assurance assessments, and GHG project validations. He has worked extensively in GHG inventory verification, energy management systems, and carbon accounting across industries.

✅Lead Auditor & Verifier for ISO 14064, ISO 50001, and multiple sustainability frameworks.

Conducted over 1,000 man-days of audits in diverse sectors, including renewable energy, mining, and manufacturing.

Expertise in voluntary carbon standards (VCS), Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Gold Standard (GS), and Global Carbon Council (GCC).

Holds an M.Sc. in Energy Systems, an MBA in Total Quality Management, and multiple international certifications in GHG and sustainability reporting.
